ARGENTINA - Retirees and pediatric hospital Strike
Buenos Aires, Argentina – August 6, 2025: Argentine security forces used tear gas and water cannons to repress retirees, healthcare workers, disability rights activists, and journalists during a protest in front of the National Congress in Buenos Aires. The peaceful demonstration demanded that Congress not approve the veto of pension increases and called for an end to cuts to disability benefits. Among those injured was Associated Press photographer Rodrigo Abd, who was struck in the head by a jet of water and had to be evacuated. The incident occurred as Congress debated funding for public universities and the Garrahan Hospital.
